Congratulations to the WRC’s Spring Awards Recipients!

Congratulations to all of the faculty and students selected to be recipients of the Water Resources Center’s spring awards! The WRC has several programs to support ECU faculty and students that are interested in enhancing the understanding of water and building a stronger water resource community in Eastern North Carolina, through research and education. Two of these opportunities are the Faculty Seed Grant Program (FSGP) and the Water Scholars Award Program. The WRC’s FSGP offers Research Seed Grants that are available to faculty and post-docs to support research and scholarly activities. There are two types of grants available, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis for Type I, and in fall and spring for Type II. If you’d like to learn more about the program, go to WRC Faculty and Post-Doc Seed Grant Program | Water Resources Center | ECU.

I am very excited to have received the award and work on the project.
- Dr. April Blakeslee

Recipients selected for the spring Type II Seed Grants:
Dr. April Blakeslee, Associate Professor in the Department of Biology.

Crabs without borders: early documentation of a range expanding species in coastal North Carolina.”

Dr. James Morley, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology.

Using molecular genetics to identify cryptic infection and potential reservoirs of black gill parasites in wild shrimp: developing an ecosystem monitoring tool for North Carolina’s shrimp fishery.”

I am so happy to have received this honor. From this fund, I will be able to ground-truth remotely sensed understandings of nuisance flooding.

The Water Scholars Program is geared towards students and is designed to help them in achieving their research goals with support from faculty mentors. The program offers students support in projects that feedback into the water resources community and provides funding for currently enrolled ECU undergraduate and graduate students who are seeking support for a student-led, faculty-supervised creative, educational, or research project. Learn more about the program by visiting Student Water Scholars Program | Water Resources Center | ECU
