Campus Movie Fest: Tell a story about Hurricane Florence and win $500!

ECU will have a special film category at the Campus Movie Fest this year for movies telling a story communicating the impacts of Hurricane Florence in eastern North Carolina.  The ECU Water Resources Center and the Natural Resources and Environment Cluster invite you to share your perceptions of the complex relationships between water, people, and the environment in a compelling way.  Films can be of any format, e.g., documentary, science short, dramatic narrative…be creative!  See the attached flyer and visit the website for more info about the Campus Movie Fest: https://campusmoviefest.com/ecu

The Challenge

Campus Movie Fest at East Carolina University launches on January 22, 2019. Students have one week — until January 28, 2019 — to make the best possible five-minute film. The CMF tour staff provides training, support, and of course, amazing equipment — including a laptop loaded with Adobe Creative Cloud, a Panasonic LUMIX HD camera, and crystal clear Sennheiser sound gear. What’s the catch? There isn’t one! Thanks to CMF’s partners, participation is completely free for students. More than one million students have participated in CMF since it began in 2001.

Students can sign up for free at http://campusmoviefest.com/ecu.

Prizes, Prizes, and More Prizes

At the end of the week, judges rate the submissions, and the Top 16 movies from East Carolina University screen at a red carpet premiere on January 31, 2019. Friends, family, and fans are all invited to join the student filmmakers in celebrating a week of incredible accomplishments. The Top 4 films from ECU win our coveted Jury Award, which means they will move on to compete on the national level at our Grand Finale in June. Jury Award winners will also receive a one-year subscription to both Adobe Creative Cloud and Prime Student, the chance to apply for our CMF at Cannes Program, and the possibility of seeing their film on Prime Video. To celebrate the achievements of ECU’s most outstanding filmmakers, Silver Tripod Awards will be given in specific categories, including directing, editing, performance, and more! The best film exploring impacts from Hurricane Florence will receive $500.  Students can also compete in the Elfenworks Hope in Social Justice category, which highlights injustice and inspires change — with the national winner taking home $10,000!

The CMF National Grand Finale

All CMF filmmakers (and their friends!) are invited to celebrate a year of incredible student films at the CMF National Grand Finale. They’ll participate in hands-on workshops, attend outrageous parties, and see the best CMF films screen, plus get opportunities to network with industry leaders and celebrities. More information to come!
