ECU Hydro Student Wins at Georgia Environmental Conference!

Congratulations to Lori Farley (MS Geology student advised by Dr. Mike O’Driscoll) for wining a scholarship at the 2019 Georgia Environmental Conference held at Jekyll Island, GA for her work on green infrastructure projects.  Lori is the first student from North Carolina to win a GEC scholarship!

The conference allows current and future professionals to exchange knowledge and share ideas about environmental issues in Georgia, the Southeast region, and beyond. By providing students the opportunity to present their research in the Student Scholarship Poster Competition, the GEC connects students with a range of environmental professionals: state, local, and federal government, industry, public health, water resources, consultants, academia, nonprofits, and more.  Find out more about GEC at https://georgiaenet.com/.

Lori presented her work on green infrastructure projects, such as the Town Creek Restoration Project in Greenville, NC.  Green infrastructure can facilitate the improvement of urban streams and be leveraged for a range of active learning opportunities focused on the ECU campus stream as an outdoor field laboratory. In addition, a green stormwater infrastructure tour is being developed to enhance educational opportunities on the array of efforts to reduce stormwater quality and quantity effects on nutrient-sensitive coastal streams.
