Water Resources Center’s Summer Community Science Camp Brings Learning and Fun Together
From June 17th to 21st, 2024, the Water Resources Center (WRC) hosted its annual Community Science Camp, a free event for middle and high school students. The camp offered a unique chance for participants to dive into community science projects and explore solutions for local water-related environmental issues.
Campers engaged in hands-on activities, using water quality testing equipment both in the field and the lab. They also learned how to utilize computer programs like ArcGIS StorMaps and Survey 123, and had the opportunity to experience virtual reality technology.
In addition to the educational components, the camp included recreational activities such as swimming, tie-dyeing, and kayaking at ECU’s North Recreational Complex. Students also enjoyed time on the beach volleyball courts.
If you know a student who might be interested in attending next year, stay tuned to the WRC’s social media updates or contact Tara van Niekerk at vanniekerkt24@ecu.edu to join the email list.
