Postdoctoral Scholar: Environmental Sensing Networks

The WRC is now inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to the development of hydrologic sensor networks. We are looking for a skilled PhD researcher who has experience working with wireless sensors and can contribute to all aspects of developing of an innovative, multi-tenant environmental sensing data network. This network comprises field sensors that utilize various protocols to transmit data to cloud servers for storage and processing.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for research and management of cloud software, analysis, and data transmission components of the sensing network as well as user-facing components, including data analytics, dashboards, and GIS integrations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in environmental sensing and data analytics.

Qualifications

Excellent written and oral communication skills and a PhD in Environmental Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field are required. The successful candidate will also demonstrate proficiency in Python programming for data analysis and software development, including a strong understanding of web development principles and technologies. Desirable experience includes: geospatial data analysis and GIS integrations, familiarity with cloud computing platforms and data storage solutions, experience using and implementing REST APIs and RPC, an understanding of software development workflows including code management using Git including an understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD, and automated deployment pipelines. Previous experience in deploying and managing field sensors and/or IoT devices is highly desirable. Knowledge of data visualization techniques and tools is beneficial.
