Water Scholars Awardees Fall 2021

Congratulations to the Fall 2021 cohort of Water Scholars!  The ECU Water Resources Center is proud to support these innovators as they explore and innovate topics related to water in their field of study.

The Water Scholars program is open to all ECU students, so please keep your eyes open for the next deadline!

Fall 2021 Awardees:

Muna Khatiwada (MA Geography)
Validation of two high-resolution satellite precipitation products over Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) river basin, Nepal. (Mentor: Scott Curtis)

“The Water Scholars Award helped me to purchase rainfall data of Nepal to evaluate the performance of two satellite-based rainfall products against rain gauge station data of Nepal.”

Stephanie Sterling (MA Program in Maritime Studies)
Investigating an African American Maritime Cultural Landscape of the historic Brunswick River tidal rice plantations. (Mentor: Lynn Harris)

“The generous funds awarded by the ECU Water Resources Center have allowed me to move forward with multicomponent thesis fieldwork that otherwise would have been impossible to afford. With this support, I will be able to conduct shoreline and side scan survey of rice fields along the Brunswick River to identify associated archaeological remains. Without the additional stress of paying out-of-pocket for costly boat and equipment rentals, lodging, fuel, and other travel expenses, I can now focus my attention entirely on survey logistics, fieldwork preparation and planning additional meetings with community members whose history this research directly involves.”
